Ronan

  • TB gelding, born 2005 - ridden Dressage/Trail
  • Now out 24/7 with open stall
  • Developed laminitis after receiving two 5-way vaccinations shortly after each other in May of 2008 - experienced minor rotation of LF coffin bone (see x-rays below)
  • Slight lameness persisted after laminitis recovery
  • Left front diagnosed Sep 2008 with coffin bone tip remodeling (from laminitis), bony reaction on dorsal aspect of P2 and grade 1-1+lameness (out of 5)
  • Shoe removal on Feb 09
  • Before removing shoes - shows a more forward, underslung dominant
right front hoof and a more upright, non-dominant left front hoof

  • Please note that the Feb 2009 toes w/shoes (dorsal hoofwalls) look short because their flares have been rasped away to make them look more normal and create better break-over. This only thins the dorsal hoofwall and creates an optical illusion, instead of a healthy & normal dorsal hoofwall angle!

This photo shows the changes in the dorsal hoofwall this horse is now growing out on the left front hoof - each angle shows a better (tighter) connected hoof wall - this = stronger, healthier laminar connection
